Hearing the baby's heatbeat for the first time

We went in for our latest doctor's visit this week. It was a quick and easy exam, but the coolest part is that, for the first time we actually got to hear the baby's heatbeat. The doctor put a microphone on my wife's belly and moved it around. At first all you could hear was the loud sound of blood rushing through the placenta. The doctor thought he might have trouble finding the baby's heartbeat over it this early in the pregnancy, but then he found it...that little, racing heartbeat. It was a very cool experience. On our earlier ultrasounds, we got to see the heartbeat but in a way hearing it was even better.

Second Ultrasound

We had our second ultrasound done on Dec 15th. The baby is a lot bigger this time (2.3 cm). However, due to the position, you can't really see as much detail as you could the last time. While our first ultrasound clearly looked like a baby, this one isn't so distinguished.

However, if you flip the photo upside down, it looks like a hampster. So for now I've jokingly named the baby Pouches.

Quick Introduction + First Ultrasound

First post on this blog. So I'm finally gonna be a dad. It's been a bit of a long road getting here, being that we've been trying for this for over 2 years. I'll post more details about everything in the future. For now I just want to get things started.

Today we had our first ultrasound done. Everything looks good. We're about 7 weeks along (5 weeks from conception). We're looking at a due date of late July, 2010. We got to see a heartbeat on the ultrasound, which was a relief. We've been holding off on telling a lot of people until we got to see that.

Now there are just a million things to learn and choices to make.
